WebFeb 28, 2024 · I'm not too familiar with the 2nd generation nano, but the usual method is to hold the sleep/wake button for a few seconds, usually until the Apple logo appears. It then shuts down. To wake it up again from the off condition, hold the sleep/wake button until the Apple logo appears, when it will go through its start up procedure. It stays on and even shows a full battery charge until it dies, as the others have stated, maybe 6 hours later. If it does shut off, after completely restoring it, it appears that something is still running as the battery discharges overnite.
